Pardon my Butt
What's cuter than a puppy butt? How about all the babies down along the strand of riverfront on the Chemung. We saw duck families, too. Not a great day for photography, at least early on when it was cloudy. Ellie was yanking the lead, eager to move along, poking at everything.
The thought does occur to me: if this is all the stuff I can see with a squirmy little dachshund tugging me, how much more you will find quietly walking and watching. Bring a camera, and leave behind the phones and radios.

What's cuter than a puppy butt? Well, not cuter, but probably just as cute, is a kitty's butt. My cat seems to think so anyway, because this one likes to hunch down and stick his butt in the air facing me, so I can rub it.
Also, over the 4th of July weekend we were at a college friends' reunion, a bunch of us, at a lake. We all brought tons of food, so a church up there let us use their facilities for our festivities. Unfortunately, a pair of barn swallows wasn't happy about that, because they had built a nest above the outside door leading directly to the kitchen and dining area.
There were hungry babies in the nest, and with all our in-and-out traffic, the parents were concerned about getting to the nest to feed their kids. So they'd have to hover near the door, and we'd see three tiny mouths peeking over the edge of the nest waiting for them.
They did find opportune times to go to the nest, thankfully. But you should have seen the mouths. They were diamond shaped, about the size of an adult's index finger. You'd have loved them, Pat! Honestly, as soon as I saw them I thought of you; what a wonderful photo opportunity you would have had.
You probably don't want to know this, but the posterior presentation is your cat's way of acknowledging your status as the Mommy. You probably already know that MommyCat will lick the kittens' bottoms to induce defecation, allowing her to keep the nest clean. Took me some time to accept the "honor" from my little buddies. But, hey, we get our elevated status from wherever we can get it!

Actually, your saying this kind of makes me feel better, because I always associated this type of behavior as a sign of passivity to a more dominant cat or dog. Also, I think that's how females (dogs and cats, that is) in heat show themselves to males. But knowing that my cat considers me his "mommy" makes me feel good ... because I want him to know I'll always do my best to protect him. (Like a mother feels for her kids--grr, don't even think of hurting them, or else!). I always try to respect his wishes and keep our relationship more on an equal basis, though. (And he'd better know I'm not about to lick his butt!)
But I didn't know that mother cats and dogs lick their broods' butts to induce defacation. I thought it was just to clean them off. Amazing how nature works! Thanks for letting me know!
If the kitty's tail is straight up, you are her MommyCat. The queen rolls or crouches on the floor or ground, she's trying to present to her mate. A kitty butt directly in your face with tail raised is looking for mommy. A raised tail passed back and forth touching the underside of the chin makes MommyCat all purry inside and she will want to lie down and be milked by her baby.
Nature is after all the mother or all mothers.

Crouching kitty? Love, but maybe a little confused. An acquaintance would actually "beat" her cat gently when it did this, and the cat loved it. Same thing, though the lady was appalled to learn the sexual nature of the pleasure. She needn't have worried. Animals don't make the big deal out of sexual pleasure we do. An owner's love is always gratefully accepted.
